Fly Angling Hampshire

These are my recollections of my initial introduction to fly fishing in Hampshire on the River Examination yet let me initial explain … … I captured my initial brownish trout in a stream at the back of our residence called Crimple Beck in Burn Bridge Nr Harrogate in North Yorkshire with a red worm at the age of 4 on a one piece strong fibreglass rod that had belonged to my papa.

When I was seven I caught my first brownish trout whilst fly fishing on the River Coquet at Felton in Northumberland where my grandparents lived and also where I invested all my school vacations. I fly fished nearly each day in the easter and summer institution vacations on this river yet likewise on the River Nidd in North Yorkshire.

As a young adult my grandparents sent me Trout as well as Salmon publication each month which I review from the front to back cover paying certain attention to any type of write-ups concerning chalk stream fly angling.

It was a desire as well as an aspiration of mine to, eventually, go fly angling for brown trout on a chalk stream as well as at the age of forty 9 that desire happened thanks to the kindness of my other half Anne as well as sons John and also Adam.

Via Orvis, who are a fishing equipment store, they arranged for me to have a day’s fly fishing in Hampshire on the world distinguished River Evaluate on the Timsbury 5 stretch. As if the gift might not get any type of better-the day they had actually selected was during the Mayfly period!

We reached the fly fishing beat, to which we had special usage, car parking the car near the angling lodge which was equipped with table, chairs, cooker, tea, coffee, milk, sugar, a glass of wine, mineral water, cheese and also fruit-luxury fly fishing in Hampshire! The stretch had to do with a 3rd of a mile of the primary River Test with about four hundred yards of a tributary which virtually ran alongside the major river. The bankside had been mown-yes mown. The water was clear regardless of it having actually rained with this stretch being generally sluggish flowing. The sky was overcast with small hatches of Mayfly and also a couple of brown trout increasing throughout the day. The weeds which I recognize they cut each month were plainly noticeable as well as it was enjoying watch some sampling brownish trout swimming in this stunning stretch.

I also invested time fly fishing on the quicker running tributary and also captured two brown trout which, having actually installed an exceptional fight, I went back to the water. My partner and boy John also did some fly angling utilizing my take on and Anne captured a grayling.

I generally fished utilizing a dry fly yet occassionaly used nymphs.

In the early evening the clouds broke and the sun appeared resulting in more hatches of Mayfly on this elegant stretch of the River Test which offered idealic fly angling in Hampshire.

The day was most memorable for us all- I have never seasoned fly angling like it!

Unwillingly we needed to leave yet we will certainly be back fly fishing once again in Hampshire-perhaps next time we will certainly try the River Itchen.
